| Crasher
@ Heaven, London. 26th March 2004
On arrival at the club it soon became
apparent that I was in for a great night. The atmosphere
from the word-go was phenomenal. It was a fantastic
return to Heaven for Crasher and sets them up for
a year of great events.
As
can be expected I kicked my set off on the deeper
side by dropping tracks like Shmuel
Flash –The Other Side of Me
and Dave Robertson-
For Her. However, without going into
too much detail I had a few problems with the sound
(to say the least) and this meant that the decks were
out of order for much of my set. The track selection
I had available on CD was far more trancey and as
such it was not a typical Matt Hardwick building set-
which I prefer to do when I play for longer sets.
Its
fair to say that the club was virtually full by 10.30
and it was fantastic to see so many familiar faces
out there in the crowd. I’d like to say a big
thank you to all of those people who travelled so
far to make the event….including Thanos (DJ
Tempa) who came all the way from Cyprus.
As
I got into the swing of things tracks like Against
the Grain- Further (Harry Lemon mix)
and Hatrix- Windeo
were going down a storm. As the atmosphere grew in
the venue I raised the tempo and despite my technical
difficulties gave it my all to put on a show. During
every break-down the crowd let me know they were there
with me and I can’t tell you how much that means
to a DJ. There was so much energy in the crowd and
that was amazing when considering how hot it was in
the venue. I think that contenders for my tunes of
the night would have to be either Exertion-
Partizan or DJ
Tab- Verso. Both tunes got a great
response and I expect huge things from them in coming
months.
The
comedy moment of the night had to be when the sound
guy was trying to sort things out and must have plugged
the wrong cable into the wrong socket creating an
almighty bang. I thought –this is it, game over.
Thankfully it wasn’t the case. I quickly dropped
Envio-Time to say Goodbye,
which really calmed my nerves and had every ones hands
in the air. This is a fantastic follow up to Touched
by the Sun.
Under
the circumstances it was probably the most difficult
set I have ever had to play (apart from when I played
in the middle of an earthquake in Manila in 2001).
However, at the end of my set I was proud that I was
able to get through it. The last thirty minutes of
the set without monitors was the most difficult part.
Luckily a specialist sound tech had arrived at the
club shortly before Paul went on and managed to sort
all the problems. Paul had been there throughout my
set and showed his appreciation of what I had been
through by holding my hand in the air at the end of
my last record. The reaction I received from the crowd
was fantastic.
A
big thank you to everyone who made it down to Heaven
and hope to see you all in the not too distant future!!
